Roundbottom --

I am agast, sir, at your lack of foresight.

Confronted with the weak link in the dubious Magiks of the Hildesmen, your solution is to post the binding capture here, among the most public forum that your papers are viewed in, and request that your devoted readers "keep an eye on it?!" And what will your reaction be when the capture inevitably loses its Magik? When one of your readers loses that eye, or much more?

Good gods man, what if a youth, seeking to expand his understanding of the natural world by viewing your papers, should chance upon your capture at a disasterous moment??

I understood on reading further through your materials that my earlier message would never reach you in time unless carried back in time. Upon seeing this latest missive of your "adventures," I am forced to concede that no amount of forewarning would dissuade someone as recless as you have proven to be.

I emplore you again to seek assistance from the Museum of Antiquities. And to subject your activities to a more rigorous, scientific analysis. Your work has gained a small but devoted following among those passionate to understand the great world around us. Nothing would be sadder than if they were led into harm's way through copying what passes for method and plan in your latest folly.

Sincerely,

- M. Van Allen

Thank you, Tylor. I have a very curious new species of snail I am inspecting for next week, as well as some field recordings of mating calls, so I should have a new morsel of science for you to digest soon. Thank you again for your assistance in this dreadful matter. I'm pleased to be putting it (mostly) behind us.

Congratulations, Doctor! I am flattered my map suggestion proved useful and I shall keep a cautious eye on your capture, as I now feel bound to its fate.
